Clomid & Metformin for PCOS: Success Rates & Side Effects

Question
I have pcos and have been on clomid 50mg. for 3 months now. The clomid has made me ovulate but no luck getting pregnant. My doctor just put me on metformin 1000 mg. a day with my clomid. I have been sick to my stomach from taking this medication almost to the point of not wanting to take it anymore. Has there been a lot of success taking both medications?

Answer
If you have insulin resistance with your PCOS, then it is a good idea to try metformin.  It works in conjunction with the Clomid.  Also, your doctor may want to increase the dose of Clomid.  Although you are ovulating, Clomid also increases the quality of the egg.  Keep in mind it can take normal healthy couples up to a year to get pregnant.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  I too have PCOS and have successfully conceived 2 children.  Good luck!
