Irregular Periods Postpartum: A Mother's Experience & Cycle Tracking

Question
My daughter is 15 months, I breastfed for 3 months...6 weeks after I got my period...normal all was fine...Then nothing for over 2 months...I called my doc and got some pills to make my cycle start back up...so CD74 got my period...all was fine...  Cycles have been as regular as they ever were since then (Since Dec 05)...  I started temping again this cycle and OPKing as well because I want to TTC in Oct so thought I would get a couple months of info tracked...  Well...>It is CD40 and I haven't ovulated, and no signs of my period (most my cycles are 33 days, the longest since Dec was 45 days)...I'm on my 3rd box of OPKs (skipped OPKing last week cuz we were on vacation, but I know I haven't ovulated yet because there isn't a spike to my temp yet)...  My question is whether I should be concerned?  I had a slight fever (100.0 degrees) on CD17, so not sure if that is enough to cause me not to ovulate yet?  If I weren't wanting to TTC so soon I wouldn't be concerned because I'm sure my body would regulate itself again...but with wanting to conceive so soon I'm worried that I need some intervention to get ovulating...  I've looked all over the web to find some info on what might be going on...but no luck...  I'm in the best health of my life (had a physical about a month ago just cuz it had been a while)...Lost 40 pounds since Dec 1st (I'm 5'5" and 130 lbs now)...any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Answer
Hi Andrea,

For whatever reason, women can experience irregular cycles from time to time.  The concern in this case is obviously if you aren't ovulating, you can't conceive.  The only way  to induce ovulation is to try taking something called Clomid, however, I don't think a doctor will prescribe it after one month of anovulation.  So, you may need to wait an extra month and see what happens.  If you find you are consistently not ovulating, you may have a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome and may need something called Clomid to help you.  Otherwise, this may just be one of "those months" that you are irregular.  Good luck and I hope this helps!
