Clomid for PCOS & Infertility: A Patient's Experience

Question
okay to summarize... I was dianosed with pcos. i dont have cysts or diabetes. I just started going to a RE. My last menstrual was, BCP induced, 9-30-08. My first RE appt was 10-17-08. U/S was good no polyps or cysts, lining was thin. Had an HSG on 10-20-08, normal all open, was prescribed 50mg clomid to start immediately. did u/s on 10-27 no follicles, another on 10-31...still nothing. u/s showed eggs but not growing. Then I was given an injection of progesterone??? to induce menstrual and another RX for clomid...upped to 150mg. So my question is.....is it okay to start clomid so soon after BCP induced cycle(only 20day since LMP? When should I expect to menustrate after injection on 10-31? Why didnt clomid50mg work and will I have a better chance with 150mg. Should I ask to go on progesterone suppositories after ovulation?
thanks
CeeCee

Answer
Hello Ceecee,

In general, Clomid is started on either cycle day # 3-7 or 5-9 of your cycle, and that depends on when you begin your period (cycle day # 1) whether natural or induced.

You did not respond to the lowest dost of Clomid and therefore the dose needs to be increased.  We start on the lowest dose because we do not know how each person is going to react.

The method being used is apprpopriate so continue with it.  I presume that if you get to the point of ovulation, your doctor will put you on progesterone supplementation.
