PCOS & Pregnancy: Understanding Your Options & Increasing Fertility

Question
Hello my name is madelaine and i have PCOS and for the last 3 yearsmy partner and i have been trying for a baby. All my doctor has done is tell me to wait and see what happens and has put me on the contraception pill. this is not working and not being able to have a baby is effecting my mental and physicall health. is there anything else that i can do to get pregnant?

Answer
Hello Madelaine from the U.K.,

Yes.  If have you the diagnosis of PCOS, that means that you have an ovarian function and do not ovulate on a regular predictable basis.  It also means that your hormones are out of sync.  As long as there are no other problems, the treatment of choice is called ovulation induction.  In this case, you would use a fertility medication to stimulate the ovaries and induce them to ovulate.  This will also solve the hormonal problems.  The vaginal ultrasound is used to evaluate your ovaries for response, growth of follicles, timing of the HCG trigger and when to have intercourse or IUI.

Since your doctor is not participating in your problem, I would recommend that you seek out a fertility specialist to help you get pregnant.
