Postpartum Birth Control: When Can I Resume Pills?

Question
I had a baby 2 months ago and haven't started my period. I have birth control pills but was told I have to wait for my period then take it the following Sunday. I know people who didn't start their period for 6 or more months after giving birth. Do i really have to wait? What will happen if i just start taking them?

Answer
Hi Michelle.
First off, I want you to know that I am not a medical doctor but a volunteer who has done much research on this topic. Please check with your personal physician. Who told you the instructions about waiting till a Sunday after your period? I have not heard of that before. I don't think it would be wise to start taking the pill without further instructions.
Have you ever taken the pill and do you know about the risks and side effects? Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com if you have any further questions. I would like to send you any more information you would like. By the way, is there any chance that you could be pregnant?
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
