Post-MC Cycle & Bleeding: Understanding Light Spotting After Miscarriage

Question
I am 36yrs old, no children.  I had a MC on 10/24/05 with bleeding for about 7-10 days after the MC. I had some very light staining (dark brown) on and off the last week of December, about 2 months after the MC.  I have had no symptoms of ovulation or prementrual since the MC. Usually I get extremely sore breasts around ovulation. Is it possible that the light staining in December was a very light cycle with no symtpoms. Normally my cycle is irregular and heavy. This was my first pregnancy. I haven't taken a prenancy test but my husband and I have started having unprotected sex again in the hopes of another prenancy.  Thank you!  Lisa

Answer
You did not mention when the first day of your last period was and if you had a D&C after the miscarriage. The light staining at the end of December was probably your first period after the miscarriage. If it was, you probably will ovulate around two weeks later. if you do conceive, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days after that. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. Try to keep a careful record of your bleeding. If you do not get a period by the last weeek in January, take a pregnancy test and you will know for sure.
