QuestionMe and my husband have been trying for 2 months now. Before that I was on the pill for 7 years. I have not had a period since stopping taking the pill 9 weeks ago. I have takend lots of home pregnancy tests and they have all came back negative. Is there something wrong with me? Is this normal? Also, how long does it usually take to conceive when quitting bc?
Thanks,
Amy
AnswerHi Amy :)
No. there is absolutely nothing wrong with you :) As a rule, its suggested that when coming off birthcontrol, you give your body 2 cycles, before trying to concieve.
However, you have done that, technically. The reason why you havent had a period is because your hormones are not in balance. You were on the pill for some time, so its going to take a little time for your hormones to get back on track again. So dont worry, this is common after being on the pill for so long.
If you dont get a period, say in the next month, go back to your doctor. He/she will probably give you provera, or another period inducing drug ..to try and get your cycles back on a routine.
The moment you stop using birthcontrol, you are at risk to get pregnant.
However, it can take up to 1 year for a normal, healthy couple to concieve.
I suggest, perhaps picking up and ovulation kit, to aid you in getting pregnant. Not only would it might speed the process up for you, but they are extremely accurate.
Hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing :)
