QuestionI am 40 and had a tubal ligation and ablation 3 yrs ago.(I have not had a period since). My husband and I really want to have a baby. What are our chances to have a baby of our own?
AnswerHi Kimberly,
Reversals, are successful now and days. But that usually, is the case if you had your tubes cut, tied, and or clamped. Doctors are able to repair the tubes, making the chances of pregnancy very possible. It would definately require another surgery to correct the tubal.
If your tubes were cut, clamped, tied, and cauterized, its much more complicated. Often today doctors burn the tubes, which basically completely sterilizes a woman. It does cause for the most part irereversable damage to the tubes.
Keep in mind, that if your tubes are cauterized, you can still carry a baby, if you do have invitro fertilization. Again, the process is not a guarentee'd process.
As for ablation, I am not sure what you had removed. If your tubes were removed, or ovaries, then you definately cannot become pregnant. You need the ovaries for hormonal function, the tubes being taken out, you cannot get pregnant on your own. But if you would like to right back and tell me exactly what you had removed, perhaps I could be of more help. I just dont know the specifics of what you had removed.
Just keep in mind, that it is another surgical procedure, to reverse your tubal, and there is no guarentee that it will be a success.
I hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing.
