QuestionI am 31 years old. I have 4 sons. Ages 13, 10 and twins that are 7. The first day of my last cycle was August 7.
My question is this. I have recently become engaged and he has no children of his own. I had a tubaligation in 98. In Aug. 2004, i had the ablation for menstrual bleeding. I still have a period, that lasts about 3 days.
I also carry the Fragile X Gene. What can we do? We want a baby of our own so badly. Can you give us any suggestions?
Heather
AnswerIf you had a tubal ligation, you will not be able to conceive unless you have it reversed. This is a major operation and can be expensive. The pregancy rate after reversal is around 60-70%. In addition, if y8ou had an endometrial ablation to control bleeding, and are still getting your period, the ablation is incomplete. That means that some areas of the endometrium were ablated and some were not. That means that, if you were to become pregnant, there are less areas in the uterus that are viable enough to allow implantation. The fragile X gene will not prevent conception. If you want a baby, I would suggest getting a consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist and discuss your three problems.
