QuestionI found out that i was pregnant in july. Since then I have lost approx. 35 pounds. Is this normal? I am 24 years old and this is my first child. My eating habits have not changed though I have been having a lot of sickness throughout the day. Also how accurate is the ultrasound about the due date. Im not sure when my last period was but i was figuring june then started thinkin about it and it wasnt right. I think I'm further along but the ultrasound measurements are in sync with my first thought. Can this be right or are the ultrasounds wrong?
AnswerHi Evie,
Has your doctor expressed concern about your weightloss? This definately doesnt seem the norm at all. Are you taking pre-natel vitamins? If you doctor isnt concerned, then you are one lucky lady :) The majority of us, pack on the weight, but I am concerned ..because its definately not the norm at all, and I really have no clue as to what would cause this, beside the fact that you are simply not getting enough food, because you are bringing it back up again. There is prescription medications that will help you with nausea and vomiting that is completely safe in pregnancy. Perhaps talk to your doctor about it. I hope that you are indeed taking vitamins, because if you are vomiting alot, then you and the baby could be suffering the nutritional defincany, and that would most definately cause you to lose weight.
Ultrasounds are usually right on track. At this point in your pregnancy, if there was any indication of an error in the dates, your doctor would have detected it by now. When you see your doctor, they measure your belly. The measurement is compared to the orginal ultrasound data, to determine that the baby is growing at the appropriate rate. If your belly measurements, made absolutely no sense when being compared to your early ultrasound numbers, you can bet, by now it would have been detected, and you would have most likely had another ultrasound right now, to examine the baby, and its growth.
Also, keep in mind that your dates when caluculated also include your last mentrual cycle. Alot of ladies think that their dates are calculated from when they ovulated, and it really confuses them. So perhaps thats what could be totally confusing you, with your dates?
I hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing. If you have any more questions, or need more advise, please dont hesitate to write back :)
