Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation: Risks, Concerns & What to Expect
QuestionI had a healthy baby by csection 5 months ago. After a few weeks my doctor said i had a cyst around my tube and ovary. I started birthcontroll when my baby was 6 weeks old i havnt missed any pills in 3 months but i havnt had a period. i was nervous so i took 3 pregnacy test which all came out positive. i am worried because of being on the pill, haveing a csection and the tubele ligation. will this baby be okafter all that? and what kind of complications could i have?
AnswerIf you had a tubal ligation, it is highly unlikely that you have become pregnant. Howwver, if you have confirmed the pregnancy tests, and they all are positive, you are pregnant. Since you have not had any periods since the cesarean section, there is no way to know how far pregnant you are until you get a sonogram. I would contact your doctor. If you did become pregnant in spite of the tubal ligation, there should not be any complications with the pregnancy. Why did you have a cesarean section? You may have to deliver by repeat cesarean section if the same circumstances occur that caused you to have the first cesarean. However, you may be able to try for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) if there is no indication for another cesarean section.I would suggest that you get two blood tests for pregnancy (HCG) 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results in 48 hours, it incidates a viable pregnancy. Discuss it with your doctor.
