Pelvic Pressure in Late Pregnancy: Causes & What to Expect

Question
I'm 36 weeks and 2 days and i am having lots of pelvic pressure it's been like this for a week is this normal?

Answer
Dear Mandy,

Your baby may very well have dropped into the head down position which can make you feel some additional pressure in the pelvic area. If it a bit easier for you to breathe when exerting yourself or if previous heartburn has been relieved a bit, then this is probably the case.

Sometimes labor can also be felt as pelvic pressure, so if you begin to feel the pressure more intensely as pain or pressure that comes and goes, then you should let your doctor know this.

If pains can be relieved by changing positions - lying down if active or going for a walk if idle - and are irregular, then they are likely Braxton Hicks contractions (false labor). This would be nothing to be alarmed about or rush to the hospital for. It is just your body getting ready for the real thing.

I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well!
