Vaginal Infection and Period Changes: Possible Connection & What to Do
Questionhi i hope you can help me here. i have an appointment with my doctor but im going out of my mind tonight!i am ttc and was on clomid. i have been off it in march but was on it in jan and feb.I had a pos hpt 4 days b4 expected period but then had neg hpt next day followed by normal period, the next month the exact same thing happened, i normally have a regular 28 day cycle. At the end of feb i noticed a "fishy' smell but ignored it. in march i wasnt on clomid but had a regular 28 day period.Close to april i had a yellow discharge for a day or two and after two weeks the smell change to a bitter sourish smell and it has been like that ever since all up i have had it for about 6 weeks with the occasional iching. i have read some of your other answers about bv and yeast infections and am seeing my doc soon. The thing that is worrying me is this month my very regular period never came it is a week late with no signs of showing up and im scared, could the infection cause this to happen? i have had neg hpt on 1 day late,2 days late and 6 days late. The doctor has me booked for a blood test- whats happening to me? i cant start my clomid till it comes!!
AnswerDear Lisa,
A severe vaginal infection may alter your menstrual cycle. More often, hormonal imbalances will create an environment which is conducive to an infection and would also be the reason for alterations in your cycle.
Regardless, you are doing the right thing in making the appointment with your doctor. Unfortunately, that is the only way to know what type (if any) infection you have and get treatment for it. Whether or not the infection IS the cause for the delay in your period, it really is a "first things first" type situation. You will want to be treated for any infection before conceiving a pregnancy anyway in order to give it the best chance for success. Not to mention improving your comfort! :-) Let your doctor diagnose and treat this annoying little hurdle first.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
