Pregnancy Possibility at 9 Weeks: Understanding Pelvic Exams & Early Signs
QuestionI am 35 years old. I have no children. My last normal lmp was 2/16/06. I got a +hpt and a negative at the doctor yesterday. They also did a pelvic exam and she said that I was not pregnant. At this point I would be 9 weeks would they be able to tell by the pelvic exam?
AnswerIf your last period started on February 16, you would have ovulated on March 1 and could have conceived if you had sex on February 28,March 1,2, or 3. A pregnancy test would have been accurate after March 22. You should now be 9 weeks pregnant at this time, and a pelvic exam whould detect a 9 weeks size fundus. If the test was negative at the doctor's office, I would suggest getting two blood tests for pregnancy (Beta HCG) 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. At 9 weeks, a sonogram should also show a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. If there is no fetus on sonogram, you are not pregnant.
