Vaginal Pressure & Cramps in Late Pregnancy: Causes & What to Expect

I am 38 weeks pregnant now and today i have had a lot of pressure in my vagina and rectal area. I have also been experiencing cramps, and irregular contractions. what causes that, and is it a sign of labor

Hello Marie. It is caused because the lower third of your uterus and the cervix are softening in preparation for labor. Your baby's head is now dropping deeper into your pelvis and putting pressure on your perineum- all VERY normal and good. You are getting ready for labor but it could still be 2-4 weeks away.
