Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and Fertility: What You Need to Know

Question
i am 19 and i recently found out that i have pelvic inflammatory disease and im getting treated for it but i wanted to know how long do you have to have it for it to stop you from being able to have kids? i been having symtoms for a week so am i okay?please answer asap thank you so much for you time

Answer
Hi Ariana,

Pelvic inflammatory disease causes inflammation and infection. Scar tissue can form in and around the fallopian tubes or damage other reproductive organs. If you caught it early, most likely you won't become infertile. When it is left untreated, it can block the fallopian tubes therefore making you infertile. You just need to wait and see, but don't worry yet.
