Understanding Low Blood Pressure in Pregnancy: Causes, Effects & When to Worry
QuestionHi,
I just entered my second trimester.I want to know what is the normal blood pressure reading. since last two months whenever I check my BP in my home blood pressure monitor most times I find it around 105/65.Today it was only 101/60.Isn't it indication of low BP?What are the effects of constant low BP in pregnancy?Does it anyway harm the baby?my next checkup is going to be only after two weeks?Do I need to inform my doc about it before that?Is there anything I can do to keep my BP in normal nevel?thank you for your time.
AnswerAs long as your blood pressure is 120/70 or less, it is within normal limits for pregnancy. Low blood pressure will not cause any harm to the pregnancy or to the baby. If the blood pressure starts to go 30 points above the systolic or diastolic measurement, it is cause for concern. Low blood pressure is good. A pressure of 100/60 is fine. Don't worry.
