Persistent HCG & Post-Miscarriage Pain: What to Expect
QuestionI had a miscarriage 13 days ago. On that day my hcg levels were 2104. 11 days later they were still at 1900. My bleeding had turned to spotting but a few days ago, I almost fainted, threw up multiple times and had immense pain in my belly that would shoot up to my shoulder every time I layed down. The pain is still there 3 days later and I have been bleeding dark red clumps. My doctor doesnt seem overly concerned even though I cannot walk from the pain and he has only done a quantitive hcg test and nothing else. I am petrified. I have an ultrasound this afternoon. Can you please shed some more light on this.
AnswerDear Karmen,
It sounds like it may have been an incomplete miscarriage. The ultrasound should shed more light on it. If that is the case, a D&C will likely be necessary to make sure the uterus is completely emptied of all contents. Many doctors opt for recommending a D&C after a miscarriage, depending on how far along the pregnancy is, for this very reason. You may also need to be on an antibiotic for a bit if a uterine infection has begun. Regardless, a doctor's evaluation and intervention appears to be necessary at this point.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
