Pregnancy After Miscarriage: Monitoring and Concerns
QuestionHi, I am 29 years old have 2 children ages 12 and 7. The first day of my last period was Aug 21, 2004. My question is a big one. I miscarried on May 22, 2004 at 14 weeks. I am again pregnant and due May 28th 2005. My dr informed me when we miscarried that when we became preg again that he would monitor us more frequently because I have had 2 prev miscarraiges before this last one as well. I found out I was preg Aug 22 with a blood test. I immed called the dr and asked if we could start blood work to monitor hcg levels as we did last time the first one came back on Wed the 27th as 1925 I had another one on Fri the 29th dont have the results back yet. Will have them on Monday Oct 4th. My doctor put me on prometrium and does not have me scheduled for an appoint until Oct 29th. My questions are (1) Is prometrium a good thing? (2) is my HCG level good for a 6 week preg? (3) I am having NO morning sickness at all which I was told is not always good and is a sign of miscarring because it means hcg levels arent doubling due to the fact I was extremely ill this last time? (4) should I be seen earlier than 10 1/2 weeks for my first visit since I miscarried only 4 months ago? and finally mky doctor doesnt seem to be as helpful and concerned as he said he was going to be should I change doctors?
Thank you I know its a lot I am just really really scared and I think I am going to worry my self to death...
Thank you,

AnswerEverything is being done correctly. There is no reason to be seen until 10 weeks gestation (from the first day of your last period). The HCG results that you have appears to be adequate for a 6 week gestation. Prometrium cannot hurt you and may help in protecting you from a corpus luteal defect. Some women do not get morning sickness and it is not a sign of lack of rise in HCG. You will have to see if your HCG rises at the next testing. Remember that miscarriages occur in 15-20% of all pregnancies. You cannot do anything to prevent them, and you cannot do anything to cause them. There is no reson to suspect that you will have another one. The progesterone supplementation may help prevent a miscarriage so there is no reason why you should avoid taking the Prometrium. Good Luck.
