QuestionDear Brenda I am concerned that I may be pregnant. I recently changed Birth Control Pills in the last few months. We were extremly cautious for the first month. I am now ending my second pack of the new pills, and never miss a pill and take it at the same time everyday. I haven't gotten my period yet and I am to start my next pack of pills today. I have taken 4 pregnancy tests and they have all came back negative. Do you think I could still be pregnant?
AnswerDear Nicci,
More than likely, since you have been so diligent and careful about the pill taking, you have not conceived. This is probably due to the change in BCPs and the different dosages or types of hormones in the two brands.
I would go ahead and start the next pack as you normally would. If you are still concerned in another week, go ahead and test again to be sure. If that test is also negative, I would not worry over it any longer.
The general recommendation is that if you miss three consecutive periods and pregnancy is not the reason, you should consult your doctor. However, some BCPs cause women to skip periods or have very light periods. So this may not be a concern to the doctor, depending upon the BCP and your menstrual history.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
