Condom Breakage During Period: Risks & What To Do

Question
The other day me and my girl were having sex while she was on her period. It was her second day on. We have heard it is safe and that many people do it so we went ahead and did. So I checked the condom a couple times during and one time when I checked it there was a small hole kind of by the tip. So I pulled out and we stopped and I never came or anything...I started to get a feeling like I may in a little bit so thats why I checked the condom. My question is should I be worried about pre-nut or anything? And it was either the next day or 2 days after that she was off again...which her periods do that to where they are on for a few days then off a day and back on.

Answer
Dear Michael,

Generally, the time during a woman's period is not her fertile time. Although it is not completely impossible for a woman to get pregnant at any time during her cycle, this would definitely not be the most fertile time. So, it is wise of you to wear protection no matter when you are having sex during her cycle.
In order for conception to occur the egg has to have been released from the ovary within the past 24 hours (ovulation). Ovulation typically occurs anywhere from Day 11 to Day 20 of a woman's cycle, depending upon the length and regularity of her cycles. The 1st day of her period is Day 1. So I would suspect you were safe in this instance.

I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
