Timing Pregnancy After Birth Control: A Guide for Planning
QuestionI have been on the birth control pill for about 1 1/2 years. I am getting married in March, and we want to get pregnant immediately. My fiance would love me to get pregnant now, but I was really sick when I pregnant with my now 11 year old daughter and don't want to risk it on my honeymoon. When should I stop taking the pill?
Thank you,
J.
AnswerFertility is a gift and often very fragile. 11 years since your daughter was born, 1 1/2 years on the pill and you are in your 30's (I'm guessing). So your fertility is greatly reduced. The longer you are on the pill the more damage to your fertility also.
I cannot make the decision as to when you quit taking the pill. In my values, one doesn't get pregnant before getting married. Being pregnant and sick on your honeymoon isn't really a honeymoon as far as I'm concerned. Added onto these facts is the risk that it will take a while for your body to adjust to your normal hormone levels after being on artificial hormones for a while.
My opinion is that you should quit taking the pill but avoid getting pregnant until after you are married.
