Sharp Lower Abdominal Pain in Pregnancy: Causes & Relief

Question
Ive been having shapr lower belly pains on my right side for 2 days now and im not to sure what there from ...im 34 weeks pregnant and the pains really hurt

Answer
Sharp pain on one side of the lower abdomen is actually fairly common in the last half of pregnancy. It's caused by the continual stretching of the round ligaments. These ligaments attach to the uterus, one on each side, and help to hold the uterus in place during pregnancy.
To relieve round ligament pain do a 'Hip Hiker.'
1.  Stand next to a counter, or a wall, with your painful side facing out.
2.  Place one hand on the countertop or wall for balance, and lift the foot of your painful side off the floor a little bit.
3.  Then, on your painful side, lift that hip bone upward, so that it moves closer to your rib cage on that side. Keep your upper body still, move just your pelvis.
4.  This movement takes the pressure off the round ligament and will immediately relieve the pain.
5.  Perform this movement as needed throughout the day.
6.  Avoid periods of long standing, or standing with one hip out to the side, during the last half of pregnancy.
