Left Lower Abdominal Pain & Possible Causes: A Medical Perspective
QuestionHi, I have like a throbbing left side abdominal pain and I'm 2 weeks late on my menstural. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests but all came back negative. This pain has been going on for the past week. And the pain kind of lingers into the lower part of my back. I was wondering your opinion?
Thank you,
Jerrica
AnswerIf you are two weeks late for your period, and you have some lower abdominal pain, you have to rule out the possitility of a tubal pregnancy (ectopic). A urine test for pregnancy may have been inaccurate and you should take a blood test for pregnancy, twice (Beta HCG), 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the value in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving in the value in 48 hours, it indicates a miscarriage. If there is a plateau in the value (it stays the same) it indicates an ectopic pregnancy. If the value is less than 5, you were never pregnant.
