Post-Miscarriage Recovery: Understanding Delayed Periods & What to Expect

Question
Dear Dr,
From 2 years, i took i huge fibroid from my uterus.I faced some fertility problem when trying to conceive.I tried twice clomid, and twice insimination. The second insimination succeeded.I was at week 6 when i miscarried naturally (17 November 2010).It is been 60 days and still no period.I am seeing from time some blood and some tissues, but not a period. My doc gave me duphaston to let my period come (2 pills for 10 days). On my last day, i start to bleed, not heavily and not a period.
I need to know, if it is normal, and when can i have period after duphaston. Can i become pregnant before period.

Regards

Answer
Dear Rasha

What you got after duphaston is not a period; it is something called withdrawal bleeding. usually menstruation takes 4-8 weeks after a miscarriage to resume. However; having noticed some blood and some tissues passes from time to time may raise some suspicion of having some remnants of the miscarriage inside your uterus.

I therefore advice you to have a pelvic ultrasound examination to make sure your uterus is empty. Having these remnants inside may be 1 reason why your period is delayed.

Good Luck
