QuestionHello...I am wanting to know if you could help me understand my body. I had a miscarriage last December at 11 weeks. I had a DnC done and all was ok. But I bled for like a month after my miscarriage. Anyways so I went to the dr and he gave me some meds to make the bleeding stop. Well I took the meds and I didnt have a period at all. So off to the Dr I go again. this time he puts me on some BC pills for 3 months. Well last month I finally had my period normal. this month it came again like clock work but my question is this. When I first start to bleed I only spot for like 3 days...Then I start to bleed heavy for 4 days. Is that normal?I am trying to concieve again and not sure if |I can.I am worried that the miscarriage has made me where I cant have a family. What do you think is going on with my body? Thanks so much fo taking time to help us uneducated people...LOL..victoria
AnswerHi Victoria
If I could explain the mysteries of Mother Nature, I'd be a very rich woman by now! However, I'll try my best to help with the knowledge I have!
Miscarriage can put a real strain on your body and it can take months for some women to get back to normal.
The likely reason for your bleeding is that some tissue was left over after the d&c. It can take time for these fragments to detach.
The most important thing is that you are now back to normal and you ARE having regular periods. Most women experience irregular or different periods after miscarriage, it doesn't mean thankfully that you can't concieve.
The spotting is normal and most women have this to let them know their monthly is imminent, although it can be very alarming if you've never experienced it before. The heavy flow may settle down as time goes by.
When you have a miscarriage, especially if it's your first pregnancy, it's natural to think that you won't be able to have children. A miscarriage is usually caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus - they say it's simply a case of bad luck!
Most women who have experienced miscarriage go on to have healthy babies. My advice would be to start the folic acid again, eat well and look after yourself...
...then have lots of fun trying for your next pregnancy :)
I wish you the best of luck and if there's anything else I can help you with, let me know.
Kindest Regards
Sarah
