Irregular Periods After Miscarriage: Causes & When to Seek Help

Question
My son was born in 5/12/01. But I had a miscarrage in Jan of 04.  Before that my cycles were 28 days, like clockwork.  Since the miscarrage they have been irregular, between 30 - 34 days.  I never had a D & C or a check-up my doctor said I was fine.  My husband and I have been trying to concieve since Feb and have not been successful.  Now, my last period was July 19 its been 36 days and I still havent started. I took a pregnancy test today 8/23 and it came out negative.  Im not under a whole lot of stress my eating habits are normal, everythings normal...so whats wrong?  Im going to make an appointment with my doctor but I cant help but sit and wonder.  I'd greatly appreciate your help.  Thanks.

Answer
The miscarriage had nothing to do with  your current menstrual cycle. It isconsidered normal if your period is 24-35 days from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period. Sometimes your cycle will change from time to time due to hormonal imbalance. If you do not get your period by September 12, your doctor can induce your period with Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period 10 days later, unless you are pregnant. However, if you took a pregancy test seven days after you were expecting your period, and it was negative, you are most likely not pregnant. Discuss it with your gynecologist.
