QuestionThis is a repeat question, because I made a mistake the first time I asked it. My period is every 28 days (arriving 29 days after my last period- not 19th day as previously stated- typo!)
Hi,
We charted for the first time this month and Im finding it a bit
confusing. (It took us 10 months to concieve our now 13 month
old son, so we are trying to give it our all...) I used the
book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and the program. I followed
the directions in the book frist, and drew my cover line etc
and came up with an ovulation day of Day 14. The program says Day
16 and I cant figure out why. My midwife said to try
fertilityfriend.com as its free- and that gave me an ovulation date of
Day 14 as well... Im too early to test, but Im anxious about
wether I had sex at teh right time or if Im doing this right. Could
you please look at my fertility friend chart adn tell me what
you think? Is there any indication I may have implanted?

Thank you so much!
Im sure you cant tell me much, but could you at least tell me if
you agree with the cover line and ovulation day? Im finding
this a great tool, but hard to get use to. (Ive always been very
very regular by the way in that I do have my period the 29th day
after my last one- Ive alwasy kept track of the days.)
AnswerThe benefit of charting is derived from the history of the previous charts. Since you only have the one chart, it is very hard to give you any firm recommendations. I can give you the general information but it will probably only confirm what you already know.
When a cycle is nice and regular, you can expect that your ovulation is predicably about 11-14 days before your next period. Taking your temperature every morning is the best way to get the amount of information you need to make good decisions about your fertility and any pregnancy. Every day is best because not only does the temperature tell you when you ovulate but it also tells you if you are pregnant and if there are any underlying physical problems that might be causing infertility.
A short post-leutal phase (from ovulation until your period starts) is a problem for getting pregnant as there isn't enough sustained progresterone hormone to give the baby a good implantation scenario. That is definitely something you can find out from your temperature chart.
Since you aren't even close to having your period yet, I can't tell you if you are pregnant or not. If you go beyond your period date and your temperatures are continuing to be elevated - that means you are pregnant.
I recommend that you keep charting, keep recording everything you can think of and after a few months will see a pattern, if there is a problem. Then you can take your charts to a person who is an expert in reading them and they can help you figure out what would help the situation.
It is possible, since it took a while for you to get pregnant last time, that there is something going on that a nutritional approach will help with. But you'd have to have at least 3 or more charts to get a good pattern to go by.
I hope all works out well for you. keep eating right, exercising, sleeping enough, etc. Omega 3 oil is good for a lot of physical problems, so you might want to start taking some of that.
For further help with learning NFP, I recommend the Couple to Couple League. Their website is: www.ccli.org and they have people who can give you assistance by phone or by taking a 4 session class. You can find out more about them and NFP from the website.
