Ovulation Timing: Understanding When You're Most Fertile

Question
how many days after your period do you ovulate? My doctor told me that it's like 10-14 days after your period stops. Is there a different answer and is this correct? I want to have a baby. I've been trying for a year with complications due to the depo shot. Today june 26th I started my period and would like to know the odds of getting pregnant.

Answer
Heather,

Usually, a woman ovulates between days 10 and 16 over her cycle.  Day one is the first day of your last period.  So, you are probably trying too late because it is 10-16 days after the first day of your period, not the last day of your period.  I suggest that you buy and ovulation test kit and start testing on day 10 of your cycle (the 10th day after your period starts).  When you get an LH surge (a positive test) that is the time to start trying.  You can try for about 3-5 days after a positive test.  Good luck and I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions...I have been there myself!
