QuestionHello,
I am getting very frustrated with the lack of my period since I miscarried. I miscarried on March 16th of this year (I thought I was 12 weeks along, but ultrasounds showed that the pregnancy failed to progress pass six weeks roughly), I did not have a D&C, but I went in regulary until my hormones returned to relatively normal. It took me until the end of May to recieve my first period since the m/c, and the last period I've recieved was aug.4th which lasted until aug.9th. I've only had the two periods since march, should I be worried?? How come it is taking my body so long to get back to normal. My husband and I would love to start trying for another, but how are we suppose to do that if I don't have regular periods.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated, at this point any help would be fantastic.
Thank you kindly,
Celine Irvine
AnswerHi Celine
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Firstly I apologise for the late reply, I am experiencing technical issues at present but try my best to answer as speedily as allowed!
Your lack of periods (amenorrhoea) usually means that you may not be ovulating. This can happen after a miscarriage and can easily be treated. You need to visit your doctor so they can look into the issue further. You may be prescribed some medication to help kick-start your system. Don't be surprised if you are prescribed the pill - it may put a baby on hold for now but will benefit you in the long run. This will help regulate your cycles and once you are menstruating regularly, you can stop taking it.
This does happen often so please try not to worry, as long as you have no history of problems with your fertility then there's no reason why the issue cannot be resolved. Miscarriage is very hard on your body and can really throw your hormones in the air. You are doing the sensible thing by holding off from trying for another until you are clear on your cycles.
I hope this has helped.
Kindest Regards
Sarah
