QuestionI started bleeding last Monday and had an emergency scan on Tuesday morning which showed my baby had no heartbeat at 7+5! I opted to wait and see if my body miscarried naturally! I had period style bleeding until Saturday - with a few clots (lots of little clotting) and something that I'd never seen before - like a small round blob! The pain and bleeding has no stopped - and I have a scan late next week to check! Does this sound like a complete mc?
I still have some very slight discharge- with a browny tinge to it - is this normal or could it be an infection?
I really want to think my body is getting back to normal as we want to get our baby back asap!
Thank you!
AnswerHi Claire,
I'm so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. The blob you described was probably the sac & embryo passing, it sounds like your body has passed whats there and now the bleeding is tapering off.
The brown discharge you talk about is normal and is just the bleeding coming to an end. If you find that the discharge has an offensive smell to it, looks abnormal and is accompanied by a high temperature then you may have an infection. It's important to use sanitary towels and avoid sex until the bleeding stops.
It sounds like you're keen to start again. Some medical practitioners recommend waiting at least one month and a natural cycle before you try again, but 3 months is best. This allows your body time to build up a nice lining for another fertilised egg to settle in :)
It also gives you a chance to grieve for your loss and start preparing your body for the next pregnancy. Eat well, look after yourself and start taking the folic acid again.
I hope this has helped and I wish you all the success in your next pregnancy. Believe me, you'll appreciate the pregnancy so much more the second time around. Every time I have my head in the loo, I keep telling myself it's a good sign.....even 16wks down the line!
Kindest Regards
Sarah
