QuestionI suspected i was pregnant bloating, tenderness in breasts, mood swings, HUNGRY (notice the caps lol) very tired lately. However I got my period right on time it started out very light thou (usuallly heavy) and on my second day turned very heavey with large clots..lasted half the day then went and slowed down heaps again. Now i'm down to spotting and its only my 5th day. I'm usually a heavy bleeder/cramp(er) and lasts for 7-8 days. This month is different as heavyness lasted only for VERY short time (filled two super plus tampons in half hour) but had very very mild cramping which lasted only minutes at a time off and on, and is very unusual for me as well.
could this have been an miscarrage? and if so, being its so early, how would i be sure? is there a way to know this without going to the doc, as i have no insurence at the moment. Also i took a preg. yesterday that came back negative. i suspect this is also because i'm bleeding at the moment. How long should i wait to retest??
Thanks for you time!!
AnswerHi Jen
It's possible that you've experienced a miscarriage but there is no way of proving so now - pregnancy symptoms are very much like pre-menstrual symptoms, so it's easy to confuse the two.
Bleeding will not alter the results of a pregnancy test. hCG (the pregnancy hormone that gives you a positive result) is produced by the placenta & can remain in your system for up to 6wks. However, this does depend on how far a pregnancy has gone. An early loss can mean the hCG drops back to zero in a matter of days, a later one can take weeks.
It sounds like because you were on time & the test you have carried out did come back negative, it's unlikely you were pregnant and just experienced a heavy period. This can happen if your hormones are a little more ditzy than normal, your elevated symptoms are a good indicator too.
If you find that you haven't finished your period after 14 days from day 1 then you need to see your doctor. It could be that you have in fact had a loss & some tissue still remains in your uterus. If your bleeding suddenly gets heavier and/or you experience painful cramping, please seek medical attention asap.
I hope this has helped.
Kindest Regards
