Early Pregnancy Concerns: Ultrasound Findings & Gestational Age Discrepancy

hello sir                            im really confused and worried. My lmp was 13 march 2009.according to a due date calculater on some internet site im 8 week 2 days pregnent.but last week when i went for ultrasound the doctor saw only sack no fetal node. I hav to go for another ultrasound next week. Im 32 yr old n have a 20 month old daughter. I want to know how many weeks im pregnant rightnow.n could it be a miscarriage as doctor was unable to see the fetal node. Thanks for ur time. Ritu

It is very unlikely for a healthy pregnancy not to be visible at 8 weeks. This is probably a case of miscarriage known as anembryonic sac which occurs for no apparent reason in 5-10% of normal women.

However the diagnosis has to be confirmed in 1-2 weeks period by a repeat ultrasound scan exactly as your doctor recommends. In an extreme minority of cases, normal pregnancy exist.
