QuestionMy cycle started dec. 26, 2007 and my cycle always have been 7 days long this particular time and the only time this ever happen. the bleeding had stop so i had sex on the 28 i spotted afterwards and then no more cycle at all. I continue to have sex 28, 29, 30, 31, and Jan. 1 of 2008. More than one time I should add in this time frame per day.
AnswerDear Denise,
If this was your expected time for a period, but was simply shorter than normal, I would actually test for pregnancy anyway. It may be that you conceived earlier in the cycle. Sometimes this happens and causes a lighter or shorter than normal "period" that first cycle after conception has already occurred.
As to whether you would normally be fertile during the time of your period - not typically. If this was actually a normal menstrual period for you, then they would have been cycle days 3-7. Your most fertile days are typically CDs 11-21 (based on an average 28 day cycle). Now, that is not to say it is completely impossible to conceive at any time during your cycle - stranger things have happened. This is why it is so important to protect yourself no matter where you are in your cycle. But there are days which are considered more fertile than others.
Although some tests claim accuracy on the first day of a missed period, I usually suggest that women wait until the week after a missed or spotty period before testing for pregnancy. This tends to minimize the incidence of false negative results and also avoids wasting money on a test for a simple delay of a period by a few days. When/if you test make sure to use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
