Understanding Delayed Period & Unusual Bleeding: What Could It Mean?

Question
Hello,
I am always regular with my periods, I can caculate them to the day basically, naver late. I was due for my period on March 9th, but got it on the 11th, I had tender breast before this and the day before they went away. my periods always last five days, this time it was not as heavy brighter blood with some clotting, I only bleed heavy enough to show when I wiped and hardly any blood was on my pad, plus it only lasted for two days then I spotted for two after that with just pink and then once brown blood. I felt perfectly fine after this and asumed that I had a miscarriage. on the 25th when I got up in the morning I wiped and there was a pink substance around 5:30pm I had feeling of nausea, that night my breasts started getting tender I never get tender breast during my period. the next day (26th) I had nausea around the same time and then again around 9pm. Then today on the 27th around 5:30pm I had nausea again, but when I wiped later on I had the pink residue again. First of I wanna know if I had a miscarriage on the 11th, and secondly I wanna know if I could possible be pregnant or is this just effects of a misscarriage?
I appreciate all your help with this:-)
Thank you!
-Jenna

Answer
Jenna,

The only way you are going to know if you are pregnant is if you take a pregnancy test. Unfortunately, if this test comes back as negative I am sorry to say you would never really know if you were or werent.

There are many reasons for a change in menstrual cycle. The nausea you explain I would not have thought was an effect of a miscarriage, although every woman is different. It is the rapid increase in hormone levels that causes nausea in pregnant women, and as a miscarriage is due to a decrease in these level I would not think it as an effect. However, I am not medically qualified and I could be wrong, I am just using my knowledge and opinion.

Is it possible that you have got a viral infection? A tummy bug or cold, something that you might not even release you have? This could cause a delay in your period, and the changes too. It is said that stress and emotional distress can cause menstrual changes, would this apply?

I would do a pregnancy test, and if this comes back positive then see your doctor and tell them that you are experiencing clotting and early bleeding. If it is negative then it really leaves little options and little answers. It could be mother natures way of saying things just werent right, or it might just be a delay in your cycle. If you really wanted to know, then it might be possible to have a blood test and have it tested for the pregnancy hormones - although even that may not be conclusive now, or your doctor might not agree to it.

I am sorry I can not be of more help, sometimes there just isn't any answers.

Kind regards,

Christine
