Understanding Post-Intercourse Abdominal Pain: A Medical Perspective

Question
Hello, my name is Elizabeth, I am 38 years old, I have a daughter of 15 years old of my previous marriage.  I have the following concern:
10 days after my period, on last December, I experienced this hard, deep and horrible cramp in my lower stomach. I have never had a pain like this before. The pain began just when my husband and I were finishing having sex. And after we finished, it became deeper and deeper. My husband was about to take me to the hospital, but I took a medication for pain and I got relieved. We did not go because we did not have health insurance.
I saw no blood at all, but the day after I began to drain an abundant brown discharge for a few days with no odor. About 2 weeks later I had the same deep pain and eventually brown discharge that comes and goes, and sometimes mild pain. I have never missed a period, but I did not see ovulation this month. We are not using any protection or contraceptive method, since we do not have children in common. I was not taking any special medication, only a shark cartilage that I stopped using when this happen the first time. I am very concern that I could have had an abortion, but what I find strange is that I did not bleed.
Please, if you could give me a light about what I am getting through I will appreciate it very much.
Thank you in advance.
Elizabeth

Answer
The best thing to do is to do a pregnancy test.  If it is negative, then you may have had a miscarriage.  If it is positive then your symptoms are due to pregnancy.  You can also have an ovarian cyst that can cause pain, irregular bleeding and a missed period. Take the pregnancy test first.
