Endometriosis Treatment Journey: Navigating Pain and Options After Lupron
QuestionHi, I am 28 and I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 20. I have had 4 laparoscopies and 3 rounds of the injections of Lupron Depo each time for 6 months. In addition to that I have had numerous ovarian cysts which continue to burst from time to time. When I had my last laparoscopy I had stage 3 endometriosis. The Lupron shot just started working its way out of my system in June and here it is almost September and I'm already starting to have pain again. I have no plans to have children anytime soon but I do want to have kids one day. So do I just have to keep having surgeries and getting the Lupron shot until I want to have children? Are there any other options available? I have tried birth control pills numerous times and those haven't done anything for my endometriosis or for the cysts. Any information is appreciated. Thank you!
AnswerHi Tracey
Wow I am very surprised that the BC pill hasn't helped you or your endo. I am very happy to hear that Lupron has helped you, usually, I hear bad tings about Lupron and its side effects. But with endo, everyone is different. I know you're very tired of having to goof around with all of these meds. The scariest part is knowing when your meds run out and you have to face a full blown period...unaided. I hated that part.
I assume you go to a good gyno...a second opinion is always a good choice, find a specialist that is considered "high risk/fertility"...just to see what is out there.
Also check with: www.endocenter.org. This endo org can help you with issues and also help you with choices and perhaps other doctors in your area.
I feel for you...I know your discomfort and I hope you find a different solution that will help you feel at ease and help your pain for the future. Take care of yourself.
