AnswerHello F.K. from Saudi Arabia,
You can certainly conceive with only one ovary. As long as that ovary is functioning correctly, it will ovulate each month and give off an egg. However, I suspect that there are other reasons that you are not getting pregnant and unfortunately you have not given me enough information to determine what might be occurring. If you had regular periods prior to the glucophage (by the way the dose you are taking is an ineffective dose. You should be taking 1500 mg per day to be effective), then you DO NOT have PCO, and that is not the reason why you are not getting pregnant. The way that PCO prevents pregnancy is because it is a disorder of the ovaries whereby the ovaries do not ovulate, hence no egg is given off. In these cases, the periods are very irregular.
Because you have had ovarian surgery in the past, it is also possible that you have pelvic scar tissue that is blocking passage of the egg and so it is not reaching the tubes. A laparoscopy would be required to evaluate for this, or IVF would need to be done to bypass it if you didn't want to have a laparoscopy.
I am not confident that you are seeing the proper specialist for your problem. It does not sound like your doctor has done a proper infertility evaluation prior to commencing treatment so it is possible that the treatment is inappropriate. I would recommend that you seek out an infertility specialist. This would be someone who can do ALL LEVELS of infertility evaluation and treatment, including IVF. If you doctor does not do IVF, then they are NOT an infertility specialist. Once you see the proper doctor, have the proper diagnosis made and undergo the proper treatment, I expect that you will have a good chance of getting pregnant.
