QuestionI have had three miscarriages in 10 months and am now pregnant again. My doctor did a hypersalpingogram and blood work on me and a semanalysis on my husband. The results came out normal. I am worried I will miscarry again. My doctor says it is normal to miscarry this many times. At what point should the doctor take more concern?
AnswerHello Kristina from the U.S.,
We define "habitual abortion" or "recurrent miscarriage" as someone who has three or more consecutive miscarriages. Therefore, since you have had three consecutive miscarriages, you should undergo an evaluation for recurrent/habitual miscarriage. Testing includes looking for hormonal factors, anatomical factors, immunological factors, infectious disease factors and genetic factors. You have not had this testing based on the limited information that you have given me.
