QuestionMy last period was 12/18/12. I've been taking clomid to help get pregnant. When my period didn't come in January I took a hpt (it was negative) I called my Dr and he called me in Provera 10mg. I took it and after 7 days still no period and a false hpt I called my dr and he gave me more provera. The last 4 days I have had sore tender breast, crampy, and bloating. I took 4 hpt today and they all said positive. Can the provera give me a false positive amd should I continue the provera I have left?
AnswerHello Kasey from the U.S.,
When you didn't have a period, your doctor should have done a pregnancy test before prescribing Provera; certainly after the Provera didn't work. HPT's can be inaccurate. The Provera will not cause a false positive test, it's just that the pregnancy hormone level was probably too low to pick up with the HPT. You need to stop the Provera, but fortunately, this medication will not affect the pregnancy adversely.
