Ankle Sprain Recovery: Timeline & Advice - Auto Repair Community

Question
Hello Glen,  I too am a expert on this site in the auto repair. I was riding a motocross bike Thursday and landed very hard on my right foot peg. I didn't crash into the ground but felt my right ankle pop or something. I was done riding at that point and walking has not easy. The next day I needed to get crutches to walk. I had Xrays and nothing is broke, good thing I hope. Well I was wondering if you can tell me how long it might be before I can walk on this foot. It is black around the heel and the swelling has gone down a lot. It's been 5 days now and I can stand on it but not walk. Could this last for a week or more? Hope you can give me a answer and thank you for your time.

Mark

Answer
If the heel is black they you had a substantial injury and often a stress or compression fracture of the heel, ankle, or foot may not show up for 10-14 days so if the pain persists more than one week you may want to ask for an MRI or CT scan to be certain you do not have either a stress or a compression fracture.
So, yes this could last more than a week, but elevation, ace wrap and cold packs help if OK with your personal doctor. Since you are approaching a week you may want to call your doctor. OK?
