Piercing Safety: Risks & HIV/AIDS Transmission

Question
Teens pierce eachothers ears, and share earrings, etc.  Can AIDS be caught this way?  Is there blood when people get their ears pierced?  Are people catching AIDS by messing around with piercings and not wearing gloves?  Thanks.

P.S. What if they do wear gloves, would that help?  I am talking about a piercing gun you can buy at Wal-Mart not a needle.  What if they take the earrings out right after they are pierced, then share them?

Answer
Teens pierce eachothers ears, and share earrings, etc. Can AIDS be caught this way? Yes, if contaminated

Is there blood when people get their ears pierced? Yes

Are people catching AIDS by messing around with piercings and not wearing gloves? Not reported but possible.

What if they do wear gloves, would that help? Yes, if the equipment is sterile, not usually the case.

What if they take the earrings out right after they are pierced, then share them?  Not a smart idea since they contain body fluids in a dried or wet form so can transmit HIV, hepatitis, and herpes under the right circumstances.
