Understanding and Caring for a Patient with Facial Paralysis: Precautions & Support
QuestionMy mother is 60 years old. From last 2-3 days she was feeling unwell. She was unable even to drink water as it splits when she drinks. Yesterday she has gone to doctor and he told her that its a paralysis attack. Not complete body but right side of her face is affected. She is going to physiotherapist once in a day since yesterday. Can you please suggest if some precautions has to be taken. As I am very upset for her. Also let me know that is there anything serious or is there possibility of increasing or it will be cured as she has started taking treatment in the initial stage only and how much time it will take to be cure.
Waiting for an early reply please.
AnswerHi Vani and thanks for writing,
With any paralyis the concern is that she may hurt herslef as she doesn't have normal feeling on the affected side and she could burn herslef by drinking tea or coffee that's too hot.
Has she had a second opinion? How do they know it's not a small stroke or Bell's Palsy?
All my best,
Margot
