Understanding and Managing Mononucleosis (Mono) in Young Adults
QuestionMy 18 year old grand daughter has been diagnosed with mononeucleosis. She has had it for several months now and of course the doctor tells us she needs a lot of rest. Her biggest problem now is eating because when she eats her stomach hurts even though she eats a small amount. Her spleen and liver is enlarged and as we understand that is the reason for the pain, but she has lost a lot of weight because of this pain. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions so we can help her get through this and not become annorexic? Thank you.
Answerantibiotics do not help with mono, which is a virus... the bodies normal immune system usually reacts to the virus and suppresses it.... sometimes it takes a long time. sometimes antiviral anti-herpes drugs like Famvir, Acyclovir or Valtrex can help by supressing the virus..... good luck with it...
