QuestionPlease help! I read a previous post here from someone suffering from an identical condition, and I'm hoping you can help! For the past two weeks, I have developed a swollen lower lip. It usually only occurs right before bedtime. It begins with kind of a warm sensation, then the lip quickly swells up, forming yellowish blisters. The first time it happened, the pharmacist said to take liquid Benadryl. This appeared to have helped, as in the morning, the swelling was much better, but not completely gone. The swelling has since occurred twice more - the last time it happened, I was pulling on my bottom lip, in order to better examine a front bottom tooth, when it started feeling sensitive and began to swell up. Roughly an hour later the swelling was gone, but my lip still felt fairly sensitive, as though I needed chapstick. Do you have ANY idea what this might be? I have seen a doctor, who really wasn't sure but said it could have been a reaction to a bug bite. If so, why would it still be occurring, and why would pulling on my bottom lip aggravate the condition? I am a 28-year-old female with no prior history of any medical condition. I have had a recent physical and take no medications except birth control. Can you help?
Thanks,
Tressy
AnswerHi Tressy,
This may be a flare up of herpes type 2 virus. It is brought on by sun exposure and stress as well as illness. Allergies could also play a role in this as well---especially to foods.
I'm not sure why simply pulling on your lip would cause this to flare up.
