Lost IUD: Peritoneal Migration and Sterilization Options

Question
I had an IUD inserted after my youngest was born, and at my annual last year
(June 2006) she couldn't find the strings.  We had an ultrasound done on my
stomach and an intra-vaginal ultrasound done in my uterus (not fun) with the
results being that they found NO IUD!  She said that it rarely happens but that
it had happened to me, so with my health issues and meds I decided to do
the bi-lateral tubal ligation so we wouldn't get pregnant accidently and have
to worry about all the risks that are involved, to me, and baby.

Well today I had a Drs. appointment with my GP and was concerned about my
back, so I went to get an X-ray and when I was done I looked at my films and
THERE WAS MY IUD, I will not be able to see my Ob-Gyn until the 28th
because he is on vacation.  My question to you is do I need to seek another
Dr. or will it be ok to wait until then?

THANK YOU for your time and I look forward to your response.

how could this happen,and why did it happen,i would want some answers[indeed];

my opinion is to get another doctor.
