Endometriosis Recurrence After Hysterectomy: Understanding the Possibility

Question
I was 25 when I had to have a full hysterectomy due to endometriosis. My OBGYN at the time said it was the worst case that anyone has ever seen before in medical history. I had to have a repeat in 2005 laproscopically. Now it is 2006 and I am in extreme pain again and I can feel this stuff grow. My new OBGYN is telling me that I will have to have surgery again. Is this stuff ever going to end?

Answer
Hi Selena,
Good question! I also, always thought that once the affected organs were removed, that it was all over. But recent research is telling us that endo can invade areas like your lungs, for instance.
I surely do not know all the details, but I fear that, yes, endo can hang around and still be an issue in woman. I would be very interested to see what your next lap shows. I would hope it isn't and offspring type problem that started with endo ends up with something else being a problem.
Based on the fact that your Dr.said you were the worse case he'd ever seen, is perhaps indicative that additional problems still exist. Were all the organs tested after removal?
I also have had several surgeries associated with endo. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, it was removed and I am clean now. At that time, my doctor told me that is was not related to the endo. I truly did not believe this. Endo causes damage and scar tissue and god knows what else...I think it is all related, no matter what. If you're prone to endo, then I feel the rest of the area organs are also fair game.
I surely wish you the best...if you think about it afteryour lap, let me know how your are and what they find. Take care of yourself!
