QuestionIn 2000 i had a complete hysterectomy... Last week i had to undergo a lazer lap. to remove the endometriosis again.. does endometriosis normally return after a complete hysterectomy?
AnswerHi Melissa,
Yes, Yes and yes again. Sorry to be the one to give you the bad news but a Hysterectomy does NOT cure Endometriosis. It can slow the growth but the Endo does recur after a hyst.
If the Endo is only in the reproductive organ area then yes, a hyst could possibly cure Endo because it would all be taken out. There are women who have Endo on the bowel, bladder, in the legs and arms along with many other places. Taking out the reproductive organs is not going to get rid of Endo in those places so it will continue to grow,
Years ago it was very common for doctors to believe that Endo was cured by hyst or pregnancy. It is unforunate that it seems like only doctors that specialize in Endo has kept up with things and know that this is not true.
A great website to visit is www.endo-resolved.com. This site explains a lot of things that people need to know about Endo to arm themselves with information. Check it out. Another good site is for the doctors in Atlanta, Georgia (www.centerforendo.com). Their site has a lot of useful information also.
If you have any further questions please feel free to write to me again.
Sincerely,
Angie
