Endometriosis Pain After Hysterectomy: Understanding Options & Concerns

Question
I had a hysterectomy in July of 06.  I am 26 yrs old and I have serve pain in back and hip.  The DR sent me for a scope of bladder due to blood in urine.  There was no cancer or any thing there.  They are telling me that the endometriosis is still there and that there is nothing that can be done.  However they are wanting me to take a hormone to deal with the menopause at such a young age.  I am concerned with the side effects of the hormone feeding the endo. and with family history of cancers I need to find an alternative for the pain as well as the symptoms.  Is there any way to remove the rest of the endo. and is there something that can help with the menopause with out the side effects?  Thank you April

Answer
Hi April...

So many doctors are still doing hysts for Endo which really frusterates me. It is pretty much common knowledge now that a hyst does not cure Endo.

There is another option out there for the menopause symptoms and could also help with the Endo pain. Natural Pogesterone cream. It was actually used for the symptoms of menopause and then it was found out that it also helps with the pain caused by Endo. I am currently using it for my pain and it has helped. Being honest, I would say it has reduced my pain about 25%. Considering how bad my pain is, 25% is a great deal. Most doctors will tell you not to use it, because they don't make money off it it like they do Lupron and such. Before I decided to go this route I contacted Dr. Sinervo and asked about it. (Dr. Sinervo is a leading expert in the treatment of Endo). He told me to go ahead and use it, he has heard and seen wonders from it. If you decide to use this cream, there are very strict guidelines on how much to use and what strength. Visit www.endo-resolved.com. On the side of the page are "tabs"....find the one for Natural Progesterone cream. I don't like anyone just taking my word for things, do some research on it and decide for yourself it you want to give it a try.

There are also many doctors now who believe Endo is just about curable with the right kind of surgery and the right doctors. If you have medical insurance, give them a try. I say "just about" curable because nothing is a deffinate. But many women have had exscion surgery and ten years later are still pain free. That is great odds.

The Center for Endometriosis (Drs. Sinervo and Albee) are two of the leading Endo specialists. www.centerforendo.com. Check out their web site. If you send them your medical records, they will review them for free. After reviewing them, they'll call you and talk about what they think they can do for you. If you decide to do this, send them your records before and after your hyst. There are other specialists too. If this is something you want to consider, let me know what state you live in and I can give you web sites for other specialists that may be closer to you.

One last piece of advice...unsolicited...so please bear with me....get copies of your records. Most you probably won't be able to understand, but make sure you read all pathology reports. It is very important to do this...I have had many complications because I never asked to see them and trusted my doctor.

I hope this helped and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask a follow up.

Sincerely,

Angie

Happy Holidays
