QuestionIn the last 5 years I have had 7 surgeries, a partial hysterectomy in 2006, then 2 more laps, the removal of my ovaries and serious dysplasia with endometriosis in June, it had grown around my bowels so bad that they were twisted and kinked. I am beside myself with pain. I actually went to the ER on Friday but they told me that everything looked good and I needed to follow up with my GYN. It is possible that it is already back after just 4 months? Is there any way to stop endometriosis from coming back? What causes it to keep growing? People are making me feel like I am crazy saying there is no way it can be back already but I can tell by the pain, that it is. Please tell me I am not crazy! Thank you~
AnswerHi Frannie
Firstly...you are not crazy...I went thru that feeling my whole life. If you haven't experienced endo, then no one can possibly understand how horrible you feel. I was actually told I was imagining my pain until I was diagnosed by a specialist.
And that is what I would recommend to you. Find a "high-risk/fertility" gyno. Someone that specializes in the diseases of women. Someone who understands and won't make you second guess yourself.
Unfortunately, endo does return...it can be controlled with treatment but rarely leaves altogether. I even hear from women who have had total hysterectomies and the pain starts all over again. Recent research shows that endo can even invade your lungs. Endo is fueled by hormones and can also be controlled by hormones. Meeting with an expert and trying some of these options would make a world of difference. I would, however, not recommend Lupron. I hear very poor reviews on this med due to the side effects.
I don't know where you live but I would immediately start looking for a good gyno so you can start alleviating this pain and discomfort from your life.
I also understand how frustrated you probably are after having so many surgeries. I, too, have lost count of mine over the years.
I wish you the best and that you begin to feel better.
